SEEING this picture in Bygones recently prompted Ray Newcomb to get in touch with more information.Ray said: "The picture was taken around midday at Whitsun in 1955."At the time, the National Union of Railwaymen (NUR) had called a rail strike, so the fish trains were stopped."Every mode of transport was used on the docks to get the fish, and other goods that were being unloaded at the time, to where they needed to be."Some fish merchants even turned up with horse boxes...
